History 

Guadalajara is the second largest city in Mexico. Founded in 1542, it is also known as «The Pearl of the West». The Guadalajara Metropolitan Area is home to more than five million people, distributed among the municipalities of Guadalajara, Zapopan, Tonala and Tlaquepaque. It is a cultural, economic, and educational spot in constant development. 

Strategically located in the municipality of Tlaquepaque, ITESO plays an outstanding role in the development of the city and the region. The community of professors and alumni has left its mark in various fields, from scientific research to art and social thinking that advocates in favor of people. In addition, the city has experienced significant growth in recent years, consolidating itself as an important technological and innovative center in Latin America. Also known as the Mexican Silicon Valley, Guadalajara is home to a large number of technology companies and startups that have created a dynamic and entrepreneurial environment. 

Culture 

The city is known for its vibrant cultural scene, with avant-garde galleries, independent spaces and museums that host a wide range of artistic expressions. In addition to the renowned murals of José Clemente Orozco in emblematic places such as the Cabañas Museum (declared a World Heritage Site in 1997 by UNESCO), the Government Palace and the Paraninfo of the University of Guadalajara, the cultural richness of the capital of Jalisco is also nurtured by world- renowned events such as the Guadalajara International Film Festival and the International Book Fair. 

Jalisco's gastronomy is famous for its variety and delicious dishes, such as Birria and Tequila, which are part of the region's cultural heritage. Today, this region has become an epicenter of the contemporary gastronomic scene in Mexico, with a wide diversity of innovative restaurants, from haute cuisine to gourmet markets.
