SUJ- The Jesuit University System

The 450-year educational tradition of the Society of Jesus is characterized by the formation of leaders in every field of science and the arts. Currently it represents the largest association of universities in the world, comprising more than 200 Jesuit universities that educate one and a half million students to be professionals with a commitment to today's world.

In Mexico, the universities entrusted to or associated with the Mexican Province of the Society of Jesus constitute the Jesuit University System (SUJ, in its initials in Spanish), and include ITESO; the Iberoamericana universities of Mexico City, Leon, Puebla, Tijuana and Torreón; and the Ayuuk Study Center of the Ayuuk Indigenous and Intercultural University, in Oaxaca.

These universities are staffed by laypeople and Jesuits, and they all share a common Christian inspiration, the educational mission of the Society of Jesus in Mexico, an educational project, the same curricular conception, research agendas, a collegiate academic management style, and common strategic planning as a system.

In this way, the SUJ seeks deploy its university resources to build a fairer, more equitable, humane, fraternal and supportive society from the perspective of the preferential option for the underprivileged. The universities make their contribution by researching the most urgent issues; generating social thought; formulating proposals and models for sustainable social, economic and cultural development, along with the policies that go with them; promoting community development programs and projects, and the comprehensive formation of agents of change.
