Third Decade
On April 3, the Council for the Promotion of Research was created.
ITESO was rejected as a member of the National Association of Universities and Higher Education Institutions (ANUIES, in its initials in Spanish), due to opposition from the University of Guadalajara.
The library, then directed by Professor Rossana Reguillo, reorganized its services and started the periodicals collection and an audio library. It served 20,000 people a year.
On March 9, Father Carlos Vigil Ávalos, SJ (photo) became Rector. For the first time, the Academic Council participated in this election process.

ITESO was admitted as a member of the Union of Latin American Universities (UDUAL, in its initials in Spanish).
The period of Francisco Martínez Martínez (photo) as president of ITESO, A.C. begins.

In June, the Commission for Editorial Promotion was created.
The first ITESO sweepstakes was authorized; 17 of these campaigns benefited the university.
ITESO took part in the first Communication Students Meetings, organized by the National Council for the Teaching and Research of Communication Sciences (CONEICC).
On April 2, the first agreement with the Universidad Iberoamericana was signed.
In November, ITESO hosted the 30th Reunion of the Executive Council of the Union of Latin American Universities (UDUAL). The Popular Education Program was established.
The Center for International Technical Corporation of The American University (TAU) granted 12 scholarships to ITESO students to study in Washington, USA.
In April, the Communication Sciences Program announced that CONEICC had entrusted its Documentation Center to ITESO.
On January 17, Luis Morfín López, SJ (photo) started his tenure as Rector.

The Commission for the Reorganization of ITESO (COREI, in its initials in Spanish) was created.
The Commission for the Revision of the Organic Statute (CREO, in its initials in Spanish) was formed..
Francisco Javier Mayorga Castañeda (photo) was named president of ITESO, A.C.

The Salvador Reinoso library was acquired, comprising 17,000 volumes.
